WE WILL NOT LET THEM WIN

WE WILL NOT LET THEM WIN
Matthew Kennedy is a 30-year-old who loves to laugh, with a deep love for his family and a life full of passion and talent. He has three sisters and a household brimming with animals that he adores. Matthew has always been dedicated to his family, cherishing every moment spent with them. He is also a loyal friend, valuing his time with those close to him.
A natural athlete, Matthew enjoys playing sports and staying active. His musical talents are equally impressive; he plays the drums at his church, where he is known for his unwavering commitment. Matthew’s musical journey began in high school, where he graduated as the head leader of his group, showcasing his leadership skills and dedication.
Despite his promising future, Matthew’s life was abruptly upended when he was wrongfully convicted of a crime he did not commit. This unjust conviction has taken him away from his loved ones and the life he was building. Nevertheless, his family and friends continue to fight for his exoneration, knowing that Matthew’s story is far from over and that justice must prevail.
Matthew Kennedy has been a victim of wrongful conviction since 2018. When he was convicted, we were abruptly forced out of the courtroom as they took him away from everyone he loves, denying us any chance to say goodbye. We had no idea when we would see or speak to him again. During the trial, the state withheld crucial evidence, including text messages, medical records, and the absence of DNA proof, alongside different testimonies from the accuser, all of which would have altered the jury’s verdict.
Matthew’s case is not an isolated incident. Wrongful convictions are a pervasive issue in our justice system. Consider the case of Anthony Ray Hinton, who spent 30 years on death row for a crime he did not commit. His conviction was based on flawed ballistics evidence, and it took decades before the Supreme Court overturned his conviction. Similarly, the Central Park Five were wrongfully convicted based on coerced confessions and spent years in prison before being exonerated by DNA evidence.
But now, we fight. We fight because Matthew is innocent and deserves a voice. We fight for the countless others like him who have been silenced by a flawed system. We will continue to fight for Matt’s life and expose the evidence that was hidden during his trial. Just as in the case of George Stinney, the youngest person ever executed in the United States, whose conviction was overturned 70 years later due to lack of evidence and a rushed trial, we believe that the truth will prevail.
Thank you for being here and supporting not just Matt, but all victims of wrongful convictions. It is through collective action and unwavering support that we can bring about change. We are the ones who can change these unjust acts and ensure that justice is served for all.
Together, we can make a difference.
Your contribution helps us continue the fight to exonerate the wrongfully convicted. Every action brings us one step closer to bringing Matt home!
